Haven't made them for a very long time, so fingers crossed that I'm up to my mum's standard.

Gnocchi are a very finicky type of potato dumplings. They change in amounts of ingredients depending on what the weather is like, how light of heavy your touch is, if your hands are hot or cold, even what surface your using 🤔

Gene Gnocchi festeggia proprio quest’anno 40 anni di carriera sulle scene. Ironia sottile ed efficace, intelligenza e sempre aggiornato sulla stretta attualità. L’attore ha rilasciato una lunga intervista a La Stampa, ripercorrendo le fasi salienti della sua vita. La “prima volta” – mentre lavorava per uno studio legale – è legata allo storico locale Zelig: “Portai un monologo strampalato su uno che diventa torero, facendo il corso della scuola Radio Elettra. Una sera vennero a vedermi Zuzzurro e Gaspare: stavano cercando comici per un nuovo programma, Emilio”. Così nel 1989 “mi trovai in tv senza aver fatto praticamente gavetta, accanto a grandi attori come Silvio Orlando e a talenti smisurati come Teo Teocoli”.
E su Teocoli che a La Stampa aveva definito Gnocchi “un uomo indecifrabile: metà simpatico e metà stronzo”: “Teo non concepisce niente che non rientri nel suo ordine di idee, ma gli voglio bene, non me la sono presa. Ci siamo divertiti un sacco, aveva la fissa di farmi ridere: veniva nel mio camerino con una finta borsa degli attrezzi, rotolandosi alla ricerca di una presa immaginaria. E ci riusciva: era esilarante”.
Poi il successo di “Mai dire Gol”: “Quando proposi quello di Ninetta De Cesari, la figlia immaginaria di un giornalista del Processo di Biscardi, Marco Santin della Gialappa’s mi disse: ‘Appena un comico comincia a travestirsi da donna, è l’inizio della fine’. Me ne andai. Mi dispiacque, il successo di quel programma era arrivato anche grazie ai personaggi di Teo e miei. I comici permalosi? Certo. E anche fragili e solitari, specie agli inizi. Dopo cambi: ti abitui a considerare le cose con la giusta distanza”.

The actor gave a long interview to La Stampa, recounting the highlights of his life. The “first time” – while working for a law firm – was linked to the local historical figure Zelig: “I performed a wacky monologue about a man who becomes a bullfighter, taking a course from Radio Elettra. One evening Zuzzurro and Gaspare came to see me: they were looking for comedians for a new program, Emilio.” So in 1989 “I found myself on TV without having really worked my way up, alongside great actors like Silvio Orlando and enormous talents like Teo Teocoli.”

And about Teocoli, who in La Stampa had described Gnocchi as “an indecipherable man: half nice and half a jerk”: “Teo doesn’t understand anything that doesn’t fit into his way of thinking, but I like him, I didn’t take it personally. We had a lot of fun, he had a fixation on making me laugh: he would come to my dressing room with a fake toolbox, spinning around looking for an imaginary grip. And he succeeded: it was hilarious.”

Then came the success of “Never Say Goal”: “When I proposed Ninetta De Cesari, the imaginary daughter of a journalist from Biscardi’s Process, Marco Santin from Gialappa’s told me: ‘As soon as a comedian starts dressing as a woman, it’s the beginning of the end.’ I left. I was sorry, the success of that program was also thanks to the characters of Teo and mine. The cheeky comedians? Certainly. And also fragile and solitary, especially in the beginning. After changes: get used to considering things with the right distance.”
