While it might be assumed that Queen's Park is named after Queen Victoria, who was on the throne when it was created, it's actually named after Mary Queen of Scots, who lost the Battle of Langside, close to the park, in 1568.

Reflections in the pond in Queen's Park on the Southside of Glasgow. Opened in 1862, it was the city's third major public park and was originally laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton. In Victorian Glasgow such open spaces amongst the densely packed tenements were seen as an important part of the city's infrastructure and for the well-being of its inhabitants.

Love the positioning of this bench in amongst the beech trees in Dawsholm Park in Glasgow. It's a great place to sit and listen to the birds singing all around you.

The rather picturesque waterfall in Rouken Glen Park. Despite being beyond the city's boundaries, it was created on land gifted to the citizens of Glasgow in the early 1900s by Archibald Cameron Corbett, who, at the time was the Liberal Unionist MP for Tradeston. It's now being leased to the East Renfrewshire Council, but is still owned by the city itself.

Even this late in the summer, the ornamental flower beds in Victoria Park in Glasgow are still looking very colourful.

The Walled Garden in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. It was originally the Kitchen Garden of Ibroxhill House, which was demolished in 1914.

Love this bench made from a fallen tree and upcycled chair backs in Queen's Park in Glasgow. I didn't get a chance to try it out, but it's certainly different!

The old boathouse in Rouken Glen Park just to the south of Glasgow. This area was originally used for curling, but it was converted into a boating pond in 1923.
