One of the Cochrane Street entrances to Glasgow City Chambers. Built in the 1880s, it was designed by William Young. The two figures in the spandrels above the arch seen to represent Literature (on the left reading a book) and Music (on the right playing a lyre). All in all, not bad for a side entrance!

I love the sculptures on the triumphal arches on John Street which link the 1880s Glasgow City Chambers with the later Cochrane Street extension. There's just so many layers of intricate detail, and no doubt symbolism, too.
