Mrs Thomson has been packaging up the German penpal letters today....we have been thrilled yet again with how the year 8s have worked on their letters.

What's the German word for the feeling you get after sending an email to a customer support address and included a fun Christmas/holiday joke, then you get back an LLM-generated response so you know nobody is ever going to appreciate the joke that was meant to lighten someone's day?
It was a decent enough response but it responded too quickly for a human to have done it, so now I don't really trust its factual accuracy. But I guess that's the company's problem now, if things go sideways.
It's sad because it's otherwise a good local-ish company with a good product but has obviously been drawn to the world of AI slop.
Dreikäsehoch
speaking:
Dry - self explaining
case - self explaining
a - like in abdomen
ho - like hoe
ch - there's no English for that, just
make a sound like you try
to clear your throat or cough
literally:
three-cheese-high
meaning:
a child who acts like an adult/grown up but has just the hight of three wheels of cheese stacked on top of each other
Now you know.
You're welcome.

@petergleick fun fact, it’s actually easier in German.
The medical term is “Diarrhoe”, but nobody calls it that. Colloquial terms are (from more to less common, but more vulgar):
- Durchfall (literally meaning “fall-through”)
- Dünnpfiff (thin-whistle)
- Dünnschiss (thin-shit)
- Flitzekacke (flitting/dashing poop)
Kurvenangst
———
"Ku" as in…the clan…you know😒
"r" as in in cure
"van" like a 🚐
and
"angst"
———
What is it?
Well imagine you live in a hilly landscape, were the roads have curves and bends all over. You're a resident, you know your way around, and how fast you can go in specific places according to physics. But a tourist in front of you don't know, and they slow down unnecessarily at every bend. They have "Kurvenangst", for whatever reason.
