An 1897 #French silent #film directed by Georges Méliès, “Gugusse et l'Automate”, was recently rediscovered and mostly repaired by the #US #Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center.

Its story involves a wind-up #clown automaton & employs some clever special effects that are still used today.

While not too dissimilar to “A Trip to the Moon” (e.g. men going on an adventure), “Robinson Crusoe” is really sophisticated for a Méliès film from 1902

Prior to 2011 it was believed that “Robinson Crusoe” (1902)🇫🇷 was a mostly lost film as only a few scenes had ever been found intact. A copy of the entire film was then donated to The Cinémathèque Française film archive in Paris where it was restored
