An 1897 #French silent #film directed by Georges Méliès, “Gugusse et l'Automate”, was recently rediscovered and mostly repaired by the #US #Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center.

Its story involves a wind-up #clown automaton & employs some clever special effects that are still used today.

Prior to 2011 it was believed that “Robinson Crusoe” (1902)🇫🇷 was a mostly lost film as only a few scenes had ever been found intact. A copy of the entire film was then donated to The Cinémathèque Française film archive in Paris where it was restored
