Georges Mathieu "La libération d’Orléans par Jeanne d’Arc" (1982), at Musée des Beaux-Arts, Orléans, France. May 2024. This epic abstract measures 5-meters long by 2-meters high and delights the senses with its power and sense of chaotic urgency. The lifting of the siege of Orléans happened in 1429, when English conrol in France was at its peak and from this point onwards the French began the reversals to reclaim all of France bringing the 100-years-war to an end. The mythology of Jeanne D'Arc remains big business to this day.
