I bought my nephew an advent calendar that has a different rock in it for each day and a description about the rock. (He's 7). For Christmas he is getting a National Geographic Collection of over 300 specimens of rock with a magnifying glass and a book about them.
I am pretty sure his father is going to curse me by name the first time he steps barefoot on one of those little rocks in the house. ๐๐
But the kid likes rocks.
Bandera Crater is a large cinder cone that erupted approximately 10,000 years ago, creating a 23-mile lava flow & a lava tube system that includes an ice cave. The ice cave is a collapsed lava tube with natural, perpetual ice, the oldest layers of which are over 3,400 years old.

I wonder if anyone can help me identify this rock type, which is a very pale, cream-white layer in-between some harder rock. It lies pretty much at the interface between Ogwen and Marchlyn silt/mudstones on the western flanks of Cwm Pennant (eastern Nantlle ridge).
As it is in the water, it's clearly very soft and easily eroded. I could dig into it with a fingernail quite easily, broadly like dried-out clay. ๐
