We're currently busy pruning our vines and occassionally i come across some plants that illustrate our shift away from "rough" towards "gentle" pruning techniques. This plant had a huge wound after being cut back using a saw to trim mature wood. Since ten years we stopped this method in favor of pruning respecting the sap flow aka #gentlepruning. The picture illustrates how the plant manages to vigorously grow around a massive wound and develop healthy wood. Lovely!
