Blau blüht der Enzian ... im Garten. // The gentian blooms blue... in the garden. #Foto #Fotografie #photo #photography #Enzian #blau #Garten #blue #gentian #garden
Short-leaved gentian ( Gentiana brachyphylla,
Kurzblatt-Enzian) in wet meadow between grasses and mosses.
Gentiana brachyphylla thrives in rocky, calcareous meadows and slopes at high elevations.
Its flowers are an important nectar source for specialized pollinators like bumblebees and other long-tongued insects. As an indicator of healthy alpine ecosystems, its presence signals undisturbed, species-rich habitats.
A valuable alpine plant supporting pollinators and alpine biodiversity, adapted to survive in harsh mountain environments.

Visiting a friend in Winnipeg. We went out to Beaudry Provincial Park, west of the city, where there is some very interesting tall grass prairie being restored. One of the flowers, new to me, was closed gentian. Magnificent.

I see the RNZCGP logo (last one) is likely an evolution of the RCGP to which I must ask what the FUCK is up with your doctor's cat

(it is a lynx, and the spots indicate it is all-seeing)

Some of the beautiful wild flowers that lined the sides of streams that were gushing with the spring snow melt from the high Sierra Nevada. Height approx 2300-2500m. Wildflower names in description/alt text

Spring Gentian (Gentiana sierrae). Endemic to Spain's Sierra Nevada grows between 1800m and 3200m. Lucky enough to see loads of these beautiful flowers today in a high valley at 2300m

@xurizaemon The spots remind me of the heraldic panther (Anglo variant), and it's surely created with reference to that? But also clearly a lynx like you say.

@pseudomonas there's some details in the alt text which I copied from Wikipedia I think.

Oh my god do you mean THIS heraldic panther? That's so grand.

@pseudomonas more on the RCGP heraldry, prob easier to read if alt is not so visible

I know nothing about this until having wondered at the owl on our NZ CGP arms

@xurizaemon Oh, I read the alt-text; it's quite charming the all-seeing lynx. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panther_(legendary_creature)#Heraldry is the summary of the panther, though it doesn't really distinguish between the spotted variety (English, Scottish, and related traditions) and the often rather more lithe-looking unspotted form.
Panther (legendary creature) - Wikipedia

@xurizaemon ahh, yes, missed this toot! that's the style of thing precisely! I can't believe that the lynx wasn't a bit of a riff off this.
@pseudomonas true ... and helps for me to recall that the words have shifted meaning. Hundreds of years ago, most of these creatures might never have been seen by someone in England, so for them was basically a fantasy creature in the first place - like the griffon or unicorn on the other side of the crest! And I see that on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwater_panther the "underwater panther" is also named "the great lynx", eg the taxonomy of one culture is not that of another, and translation to consider too.
Underwater panther - Wikipedia

@xurizaemon totally, yes! And of course in heraldic terms things evolved as they went (hence the heraldic panther ending up quite different in England vs in Germany)
