Don-kunEine Messe-Erwerbung: "Der Teufelsfisch" von Susumu Katsumata. Eine Sammlung kurzer Geschichten des bisher in Deutschland unveröffentlichten Mangaka, über Arbeiter in einem Atomkraftwerk, über japanische Fabelwesen und autobiografisch geprägte tragische Kurzgeschichten. Eine etwas wilde Mischung mit wenig Zusammenhang - ich weiß auch nicht, was ich eigentlich erwartet habe. Aber zumindest ein interessanter Blick in das Schaffen des Künstlers.

I just finished this gekiga manga from the 1970s and it's nearly 600 pages of tension, world-building, action, politicking, and 007 villain schemes.
An angry young man joined an extremist new left group and visited a Japanese island. There, he found a young, pretty boy. A nearby military base has a chemical weapon leak and killed everyone on the island, except our two young friends.
Hiding in a cave, they survived the incident, but the young boy's mind was damaged to the point of psychopathy.
Years later, he's hurting others and his protector and part-time lover - now an ordained priest - is trying to stop him.
So much happens and I couldn't stop reading it. The art is generally not great but the story and character development make up for any pitfalls.
CW: Child abuse, CSA, murder, gun play, knife play, power plays, abuse of authority, misogyny, dismemberment, financial crime, and more besides.
Have you peeps heard of the manga 【noise】 by Tetsuya Tsutsui?
It's a gritty crime and law story set in rural Japan featuring some of the best character design and development I've ever seen. Apparently, it's been made into a B-movie too.
I'm going to get into this. Report back later.
