Late in his life, J Geils gave a radio interview. It seems to me it was on a Music Monday on "Overnight America With Jon Grayson." In the interview, Geils said "J" appears without a period after it: - it is a nickname, not an abbreviation. Since hearing that, I have always given the band's name as
