In Thailand interaction with monks follows strict cultural norms: avoid physical contact, especially if you are female, and never hand items directly to them.

A respectful "wai" gesture is acceptable, but monks will not return the gesture to laypeople.

These practices reflect the deep respect Thai culture holds for monastic life.

Chilli are instantly associated with the food of Asia, South Asia China and the East coast of Africa to such an extent we think they originate there.

Not so. Chilli peppers have been cultivated in the Americas for over 6000 years before they were taken to the world by the Portuguese towards the end of 15th century.

White Elephants in Thailand, are sacred and a symbol of Thai royal power. Not white more a soft reddish brown.

In the past White Elephants were sometimes given as a present to an enemy, perhaps a lesser noble who displeased the King.

The unfortunate recipient, unable to make any profit from it and obliged to take care of it, could suffer bankruptcy thus the expression some gifts being a 'white elephant'.
