It'll be so much easier to shout, "Neither do you!!!" than, "well actually, the federal #GasTax covers a small and shrinking share of the cost to build and maintain roooaaaaaaddddddssssssssss.......!!!" #BikeSky

Aussies pay more tax on a stubby than the gas barons pay on billions in exported LNG.
Senator Pocock is spot on: time to end the great gas giveaway. Slap a flat 25% tax on exports, rake in billions for housing, health, & renewables instead of letting multinationals leach our resources for peanuts.
Beer taxes > PRRT? That’s not a policy, that’s a scam. Fix it now!

Aussies are stunned: Treasury just confirmed we’ll rake in $2.7B from beer excise in 2025-26… but only $1.5B from PRRT on our massive offshore gas exports. We’re one of the world’s biggest LNG exporters, yet multinational gas giants pay less tax than punters pay on a slab.
This is broken. Gas companies dodge super-profits tax with endless deductions while everyday drinkers get slugged. Time to fix PRRT, slap on real royalties or a flat export tax, and build a proper sovereign wealth fund for future generations—not corporate handouts.
Why are we taxing beer harder than billion-dollar gas rip-offs? Tax the extractors, not the exhausted.

If it walks like a tax and quacks like a tax, it's probably a tax. Tax is fine, but don't use it to increase electricity costs AND climate change with something that will be a stranded asset anyway! Govt under pressure over gas plan as Kiwis will feel sting of #GasTax

Tax or levy? Government under ...
Energy Minister Simon Watts claims LNG ‘levy’ to pay for import facility isn’t a levy as Labour attacks ‘gas tax’

'It is neither because it is a net benefit to New Zealand households.'

@idoubtit yeah, it's really poorly thought out.

I understand the government wants income from the users of the roads to maintain them.

They had decided that gas taxes were the appropriate way as you pay more when you buy more gas to travel more on the road.

Since EV's don't use gas that no longer works. But an exorbitant tax on EV's is dumb.

Replace the gas tax for ALL cars, gas and electric, with a annual "tax" based on the mileage traveled in the last year. Not hard and also fair to all.

And so the choice is:

Corporations pay ZERO.

Private road users, aka "the little guys", are footing the whole bill in the most aggressively #regressivetaxation possible.

"… #payrolltax increase would cost a worker who earns…$68,283 about $68 per year, and drivers of passenger cars would pay $84 more… #vehicleregistrationfees#gastax…depending on how many miles people drive and how fuel-efficient their cars are."

Crap work Tina.

Oregon transportation tax vote and layoffs delayed because of senator's health • Oregon Capital Chronicle

The Oregon Senate will delay a planned vote on a transportation tax package for two weeks and Gov. Kotek will delay layoffs.

Oregon Capital Chronicle

and, yes, HB 3362 **was** egregiously regressive.

—‌ a shitty bill, that should have included ALL vehicles, so that corporate road-ruiners would cover their dues.

—‌ and, what they don't say is that funding it through fees and registration, with a tiny smattering of #gastax, is **already** steeply #regressivetaxation

—‌ and that it doesn't even remotely cover total cost to the #environment
