🎬 GARAJONAY GREEN
The legend goes that princess Gara from La Gomera (part of the Canary Islands, Spain) was in love with a poor peasant’s son from Tenerife named Jonay. Because of the disapproval of Gara’s family to this relationship, the couple went into hiding in the woods of these misty highlands. If you look carefully this soothing place is filled with their hidden faces and embraces. what a Tim Burton-esque setting. The lovers got united in the name of the forest: Garajonay.

Today we drove into the #garajonay national park and #hiked up to the ermita de lourdes. It’s a very tranquil place that feels like its in a mythical forest. Moss covers the ancient trees with long fronds of verdant green. It’s very humid, but also cool compared to the lower areas of La Gomera. The diversity of plant life is astounding.
Near the base of our hike, we stopped for a watercress soup that was truly delicious. It came with Gofia flour to thicken it to taste.
Arrived in #Hermigua on La Gomera last night. It’s really beautiful here. The landscape has many more ravines than Tenerife and lush vegetation. Hermigua has many banana plantations and it’s history dates back to circa 1691.
Heading out for a #hike this morning up to El Cedro on the edge of the #garajonay national park.
