Netzblockierer@Juni There's a reason Valve won't subsidize the SteamMachine (nor SteamDeck), and that's beacuse it'll not work for them.
- Valve's market dominance is due to not mistreating customers:
- Unlike Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft they don't lock-down their devices they merely disrecommend installing something else, but don't use active measures to make it hard if not impossible to install a different OS.
- Thus they'd either have to burn >25 years of trust and all the goodwill they earned with their openness, or risk getting all their hardware bought by non-gamers due to being competitively priced!
- And whilst Valve seems rich, they are negligible compared to their competitiors when it comes to the ability to subsidize hardware.
So no, we can be glad they sell it at-cost but they'll not subsidize their open product.

I disagree with MVG here:
- About a year before GameStop closed up in Germany, I was able to get some "used & tested" [as in actually working with 14 day (mandatory per law!) warranty, not the "premium refurbished" Scam from the USA!] Xbox 360 Slim 4GB for €15 per piece with shipping…
- I should see if I can find the reciept again… But yeah, you can propably find listings for them on WayBackMachine's backups of gamestop.de …
- Later on they were allegedly sold off for as little as €9,99 - tho I've only heard that and not seen any evidence of those.

Blake PattersonPlaying some Wipeout XL on my newly-repaired Playstation (SCPH-1001, purchased in 1996) using the Namco NeGcon analog racing controller.
I've replaced the PSU and the dead optical drive on this unit with a pre-tuned unit from TotalConsole. Drop in and go. Glad to have this back up and running after several years dark.
