.io questions in sharp focus as UK signs Chagos treaty - Domain Incite

The UK government has signed a treaty handing over sovereignty of the Chagos archipelago to Mauritius, which could eventually turn out to be bad news for .io domain name owners. Amazon and its personalised Internet domain: eyes fixed firmly on the future

Afnic

Remember that glorious period back in 2012, when #ICANN started accepting applications for new generic top-level domains (#gTLDs), eventually adding over 1,200 new TLDs, including such goldmines as .extraspace and .vermögensberatung?

Well, clearly that wasn't enough, because we're now finding ourselves on the cusp of another round.

Started wondering about domains along the lines of xxx.xxx, but fewest amount of x's still available is 25 (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx) which is maybe too many. Funnily enough 11 and 20 x's are each considered premium domains

Hackers break .mobi after Whois domain expires

> Identity Digital, which now runs .mobi after a series of acquisitions, originally used whois.dotmobiregistry.net for its Whois server, but this later changed to whois.nic.mobi and the original domain expired last December.

> WatchTowr spotted this, registered the name, and set up a Whois server there, which went on to receive 2.5 million queries from 135,000 systems in less than a week.

Hackers break .mobi after Whois domain expires - Domain Incite

It's probably a bad idea to let a critical infrastructure domain expire, even if you don't use it any more, as Identity Digital seems to be discovering this week. White-hat hackers at WatchTowr today published research showing how they managed to undermine SSL security in the entire .mobi TLD, by registering an expired domain previously
