Finally put up a real #HF antenna, a #g5rv as they are called.

Its been a long time goal to put this up but its on a temporary mount now. During summer there will be time to mount it properly with wall brackets and without tethers.

You see I made this antenna with a friend but they have gotten quite ill and won't be here for much longer. So I put this mount up quickly together with my father so we could demonstrate the antenna.

1/3) Hi #hamradio friends - this weekend is the international #scout #jotajoti weekend and we’re active as 5P1JAM 🙂 Antenna is a #G5RV
My #zs6bkw / improved #g5rv #antenna finally broke completely- the ladder line broke off and it fell on the ground, along with the coax line. Of course, the goats found it first and destroyed it 😂 I made a new feed line with some rg8x coax and tested it with the great little #nanovna - results: 0.33 dB loss at 5Mhz, about 1 dB loss at 40Mhz for a length of 50 ft. Decent, I think.

A letter from Louis Varney the inventor of the G5RV antenna to his friend Enrique explaining the works of his new invention, the G5RV antenna. Also he made some diagrams explaining how it works and the measurements and the parts needed to build the antenna. A little bit of ham history, enjoy!

After work I got the chainsaw out of the basement and cut two tracks into the woods to harness my G5RV as an inverted V and put it into operation on the Yaesu FT-891. And what can I say? It works! 🤩🎉 #hamradio #yaesu #80m #g5rv
My #trusdx fits nicely in a recycled Pelican case along with my #G5RV dipole. Makes a decent to-go kit. But I think I might need to make an #EFHW soon as it would be a lot smaller and easier to deploy into random trees.
On March 21st I exchanged my G5RV and my 20m dipole. Now hassle free radio operation on shortwave is finally possible again.

Am 21. März habe ich meine G5RV und meinen 20m-Dipol ausgetauscht. Jetzt ist endlich wieder störungsfreier Funkbetrieb auf Kurzwelle möglich.

So happy, logged a QSO with #DF8WZ this morning on 3728 Khz after my #G5RV #antenna got back to life.
