As has been well-established for quite some time now, the problem with social media is mainly sociological not technological. Even technological adjustments to social media sorely need to be firmly grounded on good sociological analyses.

…And anyone can distrust and/or vilify Marshall McLuhan all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that we humans cannot not communicate, and that communication by default mostly err towards miscommunication.

And the solution to the problem of rampant miscommunication, /is not/ to stop communicating, but rather to communicate better.

Social media is a double-edged sword.

It is a double-edged sword that the Corporatist Upper-Class had decided to push & sell hard to the general consumtivist society.

The double-edge is that yes it connects people more deeply socially & psychologically than people have ever done before, and at the same time it also exposes individuals & society more luridly to the darker & previously more hidden aspects of both individuals and societies.

Y'know, I no longer want to use Social Media to fill idle time.

Instead I want to use Social Media to connect with other human beings, and to enrich my human experience.

Not to doomscroll, and definitely not to affirm my darker, nihilistic opinions about the state of the world.

Connecting to important people in my life will be 'relegated' (or 'elevated') to instant-messaging cellphone-based text-chat apps (as it already has been).

If Ta-Nehisi Coates complain that there are "no Palestinian voices" telling the Palestinian story in Western news-media, and that is why Western journalism is responsible for/complicit in the Palestinian genocide, well I'm here to tell you that there is no Israeli voice in Indonesia and other OIC nations/pro-Palestinian nations.

Just like how the Palestinian cause is dehumanized in the West, so too the Israeli cause is dehumanized in the East.

This is no condition for the possibility of a dialogue for ending of conflict. Unless the end is either the genocided end of the Israeli people, or the genocided end of the Palestinian people. Or the genocided end of both. Or maybe global thermonuclear war might be a more plausible end.

◾ Mastodon Social: can follow Threads dot Net, has 450-char. post limit, defederated by many indie Mastodon instances because of dislike towards Gargron (whether ethical or personal etc.)

◾ Mastodon Cloud: cannot follow Threads dot Net, has 450-char. post limit, defederated from many instances because of various distrust issues (large number of registered accounts, crypto/blockchain associations, refuse to be explicitly an anti-Nazi safe-space, etc.)

But if War must happen (and war does happen and *is happening* irregardless), might be nice to be on the side that's not imperialistic, that's not genocidal, that's not nihilistic/apocalyptic, that's not s**cidal...

Say no to war, but more important & more urgent than that (imo) is to stop killing people.

And failing that (and we do and will continue to fail that), we should strive to help minimize human suffering, as much as we each can, in whichever way we each can.
