NYDailyNews: Aspiring event planner Billy McFarland is throwing in the towel on Fyre Festival. After two failures to launch, McFarland is hoping to sell the brand he made famous — for better or worse — to another operator. The announcement comes after two years of trying to launch a second Fyre Festival to follow the 2017 debacle that landed him in prison for four years.

I mean, I get it. Festivals are supposed to offer An Experience, and many offer a very specialized experience to a very specific audience.

NYTimes: Fyre Festival 2 is back up in the air, after the organizers announced the festival would no longer take place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. “We are vetting new locations & will announce our host destination soon. Our priorities remain unchanged: delivering an unforgettable, safe, & transparent experience,” the message read. But it was already the second time in 3 months that the festival had been moved to a new location.
On Wednesday, event organizers blamed local authorities in Playa del Carmen for the latest hitch, accusing the govt of robbing Fyre Fest without offering any evidence. At the end of March, organizers livestreamed a news conference at Martina Beach Club in Playa del Carmen. When asked by The Times if the event had acquired the necessary legal permits for the event, a man who had identified himself only as Fernando answered,
“We have the local permits and the event is going to be successful,” he said. “We have the authorities here. We will have the security & everything is going to be perfect,” he added. But the Fyre Fest 2 organizers did not announce any musical acts, and days later, in a post on social media, the local government in Playa del Carmen denied that the event would be held in the area.
