This post popped up in my FB timeline memories yesterday from my first Furious Fiction in April 2020. Fitting, as I wrote and submitted my seventh April story yesterday! ๐Ÿ˜Š #writers #writing #furiousfiction #flashfiction #shortstory

I'm currently writing my short story for the April 2026 Furious Fiction run by the Australian Writers' Centre. This is my seventh April story since my first Furious Fiction in April 2020. Last year's was the longlisted Bedtime Stories. ๐Ÿ“–

Bedtime Stories

'Sweet dreams, Tiger.' I open my eyes and stare at the ceiling above me. Why had Mum's mantra from my childhood bedtimes entered my head?

The brief drops this afternoon for this weekend's April 2026 Furious Fiction writing challenge run by the Australian Writers' Centre. It will be my 7th April challenge since 2020. My 4th in 2023, Family Reflections was my first showcased story! โ˜บ๏ธ

Family Reflections

Mum's up first, though she doesn't like looking at her reflection nowadays. She splashes her face and turns away from me with a towel.

The brief drops on Friday afternoon for this weekend's April 2026 Furious Fiction writing challenge run by the Australian Writers' Centre. It will be my seventh April challenge since my first when I wrote A Song on the Radio in 2020.

The Lucky Country (2021) and The Lost Hour (2022) were my second and third Furious Fictions. However, in 2022, the Writers' Centre shifted the challenge from monthly to quarterly. I wrote The Lost Hour as an "unofficial" story because I missed my monthly Furious Fiction fix. But I stuck to the usual competition rules, drawing the brief at random from the Writers' Centre's archive.

There are links to both stories in the below and a link to the Furious Fiction page. Why not register and have some furious fun this weekend? โœ๏ธ

The Lost Hour

You know what it's like when you lose something. It's always in the last place you look. But how do you find a lost hour?

A Song on the Radio

Elliot parked close to the beach and grabbed a brown-bagged bottle of tequila. Tie a Yellow Ribbon was on the radio, and he turned it up loud.

Furious Fiction: March 2026 Story Showcase

What a month! Without fully grasping just how much of a talking point our location prompt would become in the weeks that have followed, we innocently set Marchโ€™s creative challenge. Here were the story prompts: Your story had to take place in a PETROL/GAS STATION. Your story had to feature a camera. You had to [โ€ฆ]โ€ฆ

A post popped up in my Facebook timeline memories on Monday morning after I'd submitted my story for the Australian Writers' Centre's March 2026 Furious Fiction.

In the post, I'd commented that I didn't know how I'd written and submitted my March 2025 entry given my busy weekend back then.

It was also a timely reminder that I hadn't shared the story, Alone in the Sauna, with readers on Tall And True. So that's what I did this morning! โœ๏ธ

Alone in the Sauna

Jez closed her eyes, took a deep breath, savouring the hot, dry air of the sauna in her nostrils and the sweat on her skin.

Tada! My 6th March Furious Fiction since 2020 submitted. I can't tell you much about it until the Australian Writers' Centre announces the (blind-judged) showcased and longlisted stories at the end of the month. Except that I loved writing my Furious Fiction short story over the weekend, as always! โค๏ธ

I've written the first draft for the Australian Writers' Centre's March 2026 Furious Fiction, with 1 day, 6 hours, and 50 minutes of editing and proofreading to go before the Sunday midnight deadline. I hope the short stories are coming together for fellow Furious Fiction writers! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‡
