At the beginning of September last year, I created a little terrarium as part of an activities weekend. I was (and am!) very pleased with it. It's been perfectly happy for 5 months and has never been opened. It contains ivy, fittonia, moss, and, noticed for the first time this week - fungus gnats!!! I haven't noticed any flying, but there are dead ones stuck to the glass.
So, were the eggs already there? Did one get in through the cork lid? 🤷‍♀️

What you can see here is a seed in the palm of a hand. The half-translucent worm crawling on it is the larva of a fungus gnat. The seed has been hollowed out by these little insects. That's catastrophic if you try to grow food and it gets eaten before it could even sprout.

I've had good luck using #NeemOil spray to get rid of #FungusGnats [test on a small spot to make sure your plant doesn't have a bad reaction]. Removing decaying plant matter also helps. And using a #PeatFree soil mix helps as well -- peat attracts fungus gnats (and peat really belongs in the bogs, not in our flower pots).

Anyone got a good fix for #FungusGnats
Driving me nuts with the plants in my conservatory. Have tried sprays, toppings of dichotomous earth, pills in the water, neem oil, neem oil chunks, swearing at them, zapping them with the electric tennis bat (my personal favorite but still doesn't work). Anyone? #gnats #houseplants
