Finally getting around to reading Nussaibah Younis’ #Fundamentally, which is such a good read! There are loopholes yes, (esp if you are familiar with the policy/international dev landscape) but love that it deals with serious themes, (deradicalisation programmes, gender & extremism, saviour complexes in conflict zones, UN project implementation rigmarole etc.) without taking itself too seriously.

Strong position. However the statement "#Canada was created because we don't want to be part of the United States" is incomplete and simplistic.

#Canada has a #fundamentally #different history, was founded by different peoples and has different cultural, political, linguistic and societal traditions, not to mention geography and nature.

Please note: "“You can never correct nature; the tree that is born bent will never straighten its trunk” reflects a #traditional and #prejudiced #viewpoint that #marginalizes #LGBTQ+ #people by characterizing us as #fundamentally #different or #unchangeable in a negative sense. However, the song also carries an undercurrent of #critique, especially in its ending lines, which encourage #compassion and #warn against #judgment.
