@PallasRiot Nancy Pelosi is sort of the platonic ideal of “politics is the art of the possible”, in the positive and negative sense.
And yeah, if she’d had better partners in the U.S. Senate (#FuckChuckSchumer) or no upper chamber at all, she could have whipped a lot more votes for progressive achievements than she actually got done.

But her capture and control of leftist energy in the electorate kept the horizons-of-the-possible much closer to the status quo than they might have been otherwise.

Winning elections is fine, whatever, but Obama/Harris political adviser David Plouffe talking to Jim Stewart and Chris Hayes after the election last week still had the opinion that “getting power” via electoral majorities was the whole point. That view is the whole corrosive problem of electoralism.

The goal ought to be *doing specific things* and it actually doesn’t matter if you, your primary opponent, or an opposing political party picks up the thing you wanted to do and does it. People certainly don’t care, anyhow.

Nigel Farage, as a UK politician graded by the “we have to get the most votes and win” standard has been a marginal figure or complete failure. Yet Farage’s policies are increasingly pursued regardless of whether his own party, Conservatives, or Labour are in government.

At some point, center-left politics became to them a game of rhetoric and math tricks, studying polling figures and proper messaging. And that may be good at winning elections! But to what end?

To your original point, Pelosi was much better at this than Hakeem Jeffries is, but if you’re someone who wants things rather than just wants to win and have power, that may be good news.
