Spring-cleaning at @Wintermute_BBS continues!

I've replaced the rather dull #ANSI menus I once designed in a hurry and without any creative idea (I never liked those) with some "new old stock".

See, there were several ANSI screens I had designed many years ago but for various reasons did not put into use even though I liked the way they turned out (mind you, I'm not a real ANSI artist)

So now I put some effort into making them fit with #MBSEBBS so that you people can enjoy them.

The screenshot of the message area menu is a just a little teaser, there are many more screens but I'm not going to spoil the fun ...

... and of course, I've preserved the iconic "red pin" ...

Decided to Give Mast another shot. Looking to refollow as many as I can from the "old site".

Well, after a very very long evening of reading a megabyte and a half of text file documentation (it was uh, a lot) I have binkp configured for my BBS and it SHOULD be ready to start fetching messages as soon as I get a node number for it.

One thing, though, was the tosser setup. I've found I REALLY hate the setup TUIs all these BBS tools use and would someone PLEASE just give me config file. Maybe my brain has just liquefied in the last few decades but I can never figure out how to get to 'finished', even when I read the documentation on a lot of apps that use those.

Thankfully Telegard supports squish formatted message bases, which support the squish tosser, which DOES use a very shockingly straightforward and simple textfile configuration.

So now it's time to go get a node number for something small and simple (FSXNET) and then once that's working right try for something less small and much less simple (Fidonet). #retrocomputing #bbs #bulletnboardsystems #fidonet #fsxnet

I posted some Ciphertext to the FSX_CRY (CRY is for Cryptography) Echomail area on fsxNet a week ago and nobody has even replied. 😿 I was hoping someone would try to figure out what it said, but maybe that was just way too random a place to post. (It seemed like the cryptography area hadn't had any posts in at least a few months.)
