Une chouette distrib', qui m'avait permis d'en apprendre davantage sur le fonctionnement de Linux... Bien que ne l'utilisant plus, elle restait dans mon coeur.

Announcement of sundown

Today I have some sad news. The Frugalware project will be discontinued at the end of the year 2025. Everything will be archived, so if someone steps up and wants to continue where we left: feel free. If you want to encourage some original developers, come to the #frugalware.dev Channel on Libera.Chat. For some history of the project, see vmiklos Blog Post. I personally want to thank everyone involved in this project, giving me the chance to learn a lot more about the Linux Ecosystem than being a pure user would ever allow. Special thanks go to vmiklos, who was never mad at me when I broke things, and crazy who is one of the technical smartest people I know.

For the last years I've been the de facto maintainer of FrugalWare.

I love this job and I think I learned a lot from doing so.
But I must say I sometimes reach my limits.

My Point is: I need help. As maintainer, Testing stuff, working on the Toolchain, providing a Buildserver or talking to people mirroring FW how to repair things.

I use FW day to day and it is quite stable an very competitive to e.g. Arch. Would be a pitty to make it just end 🥺

Found an obscure #Linux #distro #side that appears to be unique. That is, makes its own toolchain, which is what crazy from #frugalware said defines a base distro. Side uses #pisi package manager, #sysvinit and features #LXDE based #SDE with #pekwm or #openbox window manager.

These odd little distros generally help #inxi find and handle corner cases it had missed. In this case didn't have pisi pm/SDE handled.

Wish I'd noticed side before inxi 3.3.37 went out but this always happens.
