#fridaycheckin

Been working hard over the past 24 hours on a takehome that I'm handing in at noon today no matter what. Made a lot of progress on it! It's the bones of a fully functioning app, something I'm not sure I could have done this quickly three years ago.

Speaking of: I'm actively interviewing and job searching! If you need a full-stack or front-end dev, please reach out! I'm very focused on solving actual customer problems with Typescript, React, and Node.

Feeling ok-ish, I suppose. Surviving, thinking about how to do more preparedness.

Trying to, like @samfirke, figure out how to deliver on a number of things I have in flight before taking anything new on.

Given the general state of things, trying to keep my head down and moving forward at my current job.

Looking forward to getting back into the gym when we're back from hurricane-hit Asheville next week.

anyway the video will be about various tricks and fiddly insights I’ve had over the years about old-fashioned lisp-style tree GP, @lspector’s PushGP, and how to interconvert and use them both together for I dunno…fun but not profit.

Oh and running infinite programs. I hate code that terminates. I need to really try harder to show folks in the GP community why.

So this last 10 days or so I’ve been learning #Manim and refreshing my Python stuff after a decade of Clojure & Swift, which has been… OK? Python3 is not bad, and the big libraries and notebooks didn’t exist before.

Having to type `range(len(list))` is still a damned sin though.

Anyway hoping to get the Manim video scenes done in a couple days, then voiceover and editing and maybe a bloop of electronic soundtrack.

Wonder if I know anybody who does bloops.

The 21st annual Genetic Programming Theory & Practice workshop was a couple of weeks back, and it was nice and upbeat, with a lot of good ideas. It Gave Me Ideas, as usual. But this time around I painted myself into a corner by (1) suggesting folks create short explainer videos for discussion throughout the rest of the year but also (2) NOT volunteering to run it.

So somebody else volunteered to run it, and then told me I’d be first.

10 km on the e-bike in the sunshine. First sunny afternoon in more than a week, I needed the sunlight. 😎 🚴

#fridaycheckin The sun made everything today better. 10/10 would recommend for your vitamin D and radiation needs.

#fridaycheckin boy, it was real nice to see the sun. Also we're live globally and <knocking on all available wood> sailing seems smooth after the EA struggle bus.

Aja, aja, fighting!

Been trying to steal time when possible this week to plan for running a new team and project soon.

Been thinking about how to do more in the RPG space.

Getting very excited about working on my next furniture project, the material for which theoretically arrives tomorrow.

Photography getting back into my life a bit.

Got a couple medium format rolls processed recently. Trying to do some film photography again. Interestingly, I never used medium format back in the day. But it's what I'm interested in doing now.

There was also going to be a series of memorial events this weekend for my grad school photo instructor, but recent turmoil at Cranbrook has cancelled it. There's still the show at the museum, and I need to go to that some time.

Framing inspection passed! Not that I had serious doubts about it, but it's always good to complete a milestone with a project (and doubly so with one that has taken so long to get going).

The beam I was trying to retain turned out to have serious rot, so we had to do replacement anyhow.

Roofers either next week or the following to do sections that need to be shingled, and then we'll be dried in. Demo of the plaster walls and ceilings next week.
