I had the pleasure of going to see the Forestiere underground gardens in Fresno, CA. This immigrant had made the best of some crap land he had been sold, hard pan made it not suited for growing, the summer heat sucked, so he excavated underneath the hard pan, started an orchard and had really cool digs.
So, my summer, heatwave fantasies are either redwoods and ferns or caves and underground dwellings.
Worth looking at some of their videos of his house! It's really cool...
