🧵 And a new page for my #ArtBook is 'growing' - some moss in french knots.
In our #museum and #culturalHeritage center we have a table with chatting embroiderers where you can ask about #embroidery whatever you want. I prefer projects without too much focusing to be free to talk with our visitors.

I’ll never forget those eyes: At our #museum animation, a five-year-old girl watched me #embroidering - shyly from a distance. I encouraged her to come and have a closer look. As she came curiously, I let her feel my fabric: ‘Look, I’m embroidering #moss! It’s knobbly like real moss.’
Her eyes in her happy face were the very picture of awe and curiosity about #nature and #embroidery. Her Grandpa: 'Can we come again?!' That's what many of our visitors do.

🧵 A new project for our #museum animations (a table with volunteers working on different embroidery ideas. Everybody is invited to ask curious questions or to learn how to stitch.)

#Embroidery on gauze and/or paper for an #artBook. Working title: Blessures - injuries - Verletzungen. I'll add the coming photos as a thread.

Art is not always a grand plan. This piece was created purely as a test: I wanted to see what was possible with hand-made silk paper. And when I didn't feel like planning a new project for the animation at the cultural heritage centre, I simply embroidered moss onto it. People were crazy about the moss!
You don't have to be perfect, just start to experiment and play!

rust on linen and cotton
For several years I’ve experimented with different materials - dyeing, printing, rusting, stitching - just to see what’s possible. As I learn new things I combine them to get more depth and texture. The grayish fabric underneath was dyed with acorns and then modified with iron to deepen the color. The fabric on top was folded then rusted.

Tell me these aren’t some cute little toesies. #embroidery #wip #frenchknots

Detail 6/n

Another detail of the border. I chose quite deliberately the order of the edging colours bracketing the blue. This shot shows dog rose and rose leaves (for the garden the Victorian renovation of Temple Church reburied William in), and gives a particularly clear view of the trellis couching. The stitching in the border is not classic opus anglicanum - I've used #FishboneStitch for the rose leaves, #LongAndShortStitch for the rose petals, and #FrenchKnots in their centres.

I had this in a storage bin for so long I forgot what it looked like. Something I did while in college my instructor said it was to pretty to muck it up a bit so I added black paint and black coarse nylon thread. #embroidery #frenchknots
@mesdoigtsmaladroits gorgeous work, a skill I don't have but admire.
