We went for the real tree again this year, our consciences safe in the knowledge that we have entirely swallowed the greenwashing guff put out by the French forestry industry that Christmas trees are more carbon neutral than any artificial tree cue eye roll). At least with us, it gets chopped up after use and the bits that don't go for heating in our stove, go on the dead hedge that we're building to keep the neighbour's dog out of the garden..
