That Americans in general could go from record savings to record debt is just a reflection of how individual Americans can go from feeling financially ok to being in a death-spiral of debt in a shockingly short time. Universal Basic Income, Medicare for All, and subsidized college would have vast benefits for the nation and for millions of individuals.
