Japan Airlines is giving free domestic flights to international tourists, making travel to smaller cities and hidden gems far easier.But travel experts say the initiative is likely to backfire, as it could exacerbate the country's overtourism problem.The initiative was announced in September and is available to people traveling to Japan from the US, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, China, and Taiwan.In order to obtain the free tickets, passengers must book round-trip international flights with Japan Airlines and domestic flights within the same purchase.A spokesperson for Japan Airlines said no end date has been set

Japan Airlines' new offer aims to encourage international visitors to see more of the country than just the go-to tourist hotspots. Olivia Palamountain Japan Airlines has unveiled an enticing offer for international travellers: free domestic flights within Japan. This initiative aims to encourage visitors to explore beyond the well-trodden tourist paths of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, and celebrate  the country's lesser-known regions. The deal is currently available to passengers from select countries, including the US, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, India, China and Taiwan. I just heard that Bill Moyes passed away this September at the age of 92. He was a hang-gliding pioneer and fearless pilot who effectively founded the sport in the 1960s. An inspirational figure to all those who participate in freeflight. RIP.

And finally: A looong glide (plus two thermals) from the Weissmies peak (4017m) down to Domodossola (240m).

That flight took a bit of planning. The direct route over Passo di Pontimia would have been shorter, but the Valle di Bognanco looks pretty unlandable. So we took the slightly longer route via Passo d'Andolla and the Valle d'Antrona.
