The #BCgovernment doesn’t think people care about #ClimateChange any more. But the next drought or heat dome is coming, and they’ll see just how much we care then. The time to solve a disaster is before it starts, not when you’re in the middle of it.
As of right now, B.C. has no climate plan. They’ve dismantled #CleanBC - an already meek attempt to protect British Columbians from the worst possible outcomes, with nothing to replace it. And what’s worse, they’re charging ahead with plans to approve another fracked gas pipeline: the #PrinceRupert Gas Transmission pipeline.
#FrackedGas is methane, a greenhouse gas that accelerates global heating. #PRGT would not only add to the carbon emissions responsible for more wildfires, it would also increase fracking operations in northern B.C. which doctors and scientists alike have shown make people in surrounding communities sick.
Approving PRGT is reckless. Dangerous. And completely out of step with what this moment demands. We don’t need more #FossilFuels — we need real climate action. Right now.

Higher utility rates to pollute our city? Hell no!
In 2022, New York City and Long Island residents were slammed with a hike in utility rates by National Grid so they could expand their fracked gas system. In 2023, the company demanded more money from customers to invest in a fracked gas system with ANOTHER rate, even though New York State law requires that we get off all fossil fuels by 2050.

Last year, New York City and Long Island residents were slammed with a hike in utility rates by National Grid. Now, the company is back demanding more money from customers to invest in their gas system, ANOTHER rate increase that will raise everyone’s bills by an average of $30 a month. National Grid’s leaky, toxic gas system is harming New Yorkers and the climate. It should be RETIRED, NOT REPLACED! New York State law requires that we get off all fossil fuels by 2050 to mitigate the climate disasters unfolding in real time before us. We shouldn’t be paying 3.8 BILLION dollars for National Grid to invest in their decrepit gas system! Climate change is here, with extreme heat, brutal cold, massive wildfires, devastating hurricanes, and previously unimaginable floods. The Public Service Commission (PSC) and the governor must ensure that we meet the requirements of the state climate law, protect our residents, farms, and businesses, and lead the nation in smart climate policy. They must reject National Grid’s proposal to extend the life of its fracked gas system and the company’s request for massive rate hikes.

Ecojustice and Slater Vecchio LLP highlight FortisBC emphasizing their product is "renewable natural gas" and "more cost-effective and as good or better for the environment than alternatives" (i.e.#HeatPumps)
FortisBC does not reveal:
* almost all of their gas is from #FossilFuels
* near #frackedgas monopoly locks in consumers = 📈 GHG + difficult for #BC to meet #climate goals

Enbridge, the company that pushed the AIM pipeline through the Hudson Valley, wants to expand existing infrastructure, including compressor stations. Dubbed “Project Maple," it would increase the flow of fracked gas running through the AIM pipeline and build out more fossil fuel infrastructure.
