We recently had the good fortune to observe a family of four Andean "foxes" -aka atoq- (Lycalopex culpaeus) playing near our camp while we were having breakfast in the upper Llanganuco Valley (Cordillera Blanca, Peru). Despite looking very much like actual foxes they are more closely related to all other dogs. In fact, there are no foxes at all in South America.
