Niche post, but if you're in the Twin Cities and fancy a figurative fox hunt, our amateur radio club is holding one on Saturday morning in Cottage Grove.
It's sometimes called amateur radio direction finding, or ARDF. That's right. "ARDF." The bark a foxhound might make in the old days when literal fox hunting was in vogue.
What the hell is a fox hunt? Why, it's a hidden transmitter search.
It's fun and gets you outside, among the the birds and ticks and mosquitoes and snakes of early Spring. You might even find a morel.
No horses, horns, or foxhounds are favored. Rather, bring a handheld radio and a sense of adventure. You don't need a ham radio license to hunt the fox.
Be ready to answer questions from nonplussed onlookers in this See-Something-Say-Something™ world.
That's part of the fun.
Meet at 9am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 70th and Hinton, Cottage Grove (southeast metro) on Saturday 25 April 2026 if you like this kinda thing.
Here's a good article via the Atlanta Radio Club. Like many things in ham radio, you can approach it from simple to complex, depending on your level of interest.
