Current Situation
We are closely monitoring and preparing for a potential extreme fire weather event, including strong wind, low humidity and extremely dry ground conditions, forecast to start on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, in certain limited areas within Larimer and Weld counties. This limited area includes parts of Fort Collins and nearby communities to the north and west.
The ongoing very dry conditions and historically low snowpack in the region coupled with high winds are the primary drivers of these risk factors and may create the potential for an extreme fire weather environment. Wildfire risk is expected to increase, and strong winds may damage our power lines resulting in outages.
To reduce the risk of wildfire and support public safety, we are evaluating the potential need for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for a limited number of customers in Larimer and Weld counties, including in parts of Fort Collins and nearby communities to the north and west, on Friday, Jan. 16, beginning around 7 a.m. Customers can look up their address on our outage map to determine if they will be impacted by this event.
