Iran confident, Vance pessimistic: the two opposite accounts of the diplomatic failure.

No one expected that talks with the United States could reach an agreement in a single session. That is the comment of Iran’s Foreign Ministry regarding the negative outcome of the negotiations in Pakistan between the American and Iranian delegations, after the negotiators from both sides left Islamabad following fruitless talks. “Naturally, from the beginning we shouldn’t have expected to reach an agreement in a single session. No one had such an expectation,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, according to the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB. Tehran, it added, is “confident that contacts between us and Pakistan, as well as with our other friends in the region, will continue.”

“We are returning to the United States without having reached an agreement,” declared American Vice President JD Vance in a brief press conference in Islamabad before departing. “I think this is very bad news for Iran more than it is for the United States of America,” he added. The U.S. vice president deplored the lack of a “firm commitment” from Tehran to abandon its nuclear weapons program: “We are leaving here with a very simple proposal, an approach that is our final offer and the best we can do. We will see if the Iranians will accept it,” he added, before returning to his plane and leaving the country.

Iran attributed the lack of an agreement to the opposing side: “The Iranian delegation negotiated continuously and intensely for 21 hours in order to protect the national interests of the Iranian people; despite various initiatives by the Iranian delegation, the unreasonable demands of the American side prevented the progress of negotiations. Thus the negotiations concluded,” IRIB stated on Telegram.

-Foto Xinhua-

China opposes restrictions on laboratory tests applied to electronics US

BEIJING (CHINA) (XINHUA/ITALPRESS) – China opposes the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s plan to vote on a proposal that would prohibit all Chinese laboratories from testing electronic devices used in the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said today.

The U.S. move, Mao said during a regular press briefing, excessively expands the concept of national security, seriously hinders normal economic and trade exchanges between Chinese and U.S. businesses, and goes against the interests of all parties involved, including U.S. companies and consumers.

China will continue to firmly safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, the official added. (ITALPRESS). -Photo Xinhua-

Japan’s change of China’s description is not a 'significant shift'

Tokyo's adjusted phrasing is likely more a reflection of both long-standing policy trends and a response to recent flare-ups.
