My little family are making the joyful leap from NL to Fontainebleau, France soon, and are seeking a cozy place to rent.
While of course there’s always the route of going through a rental agency, etc, I’ve always been a fan of the hidden gem, the challenger option, the serendipitous path.
So I made an IG post that’s a handy calling card, telling our story and what we’re seeking.

We are an easygoing family of 3+3 (humans & cats) who are excited to soon live amongst the tight knit community of Fontainebleau. That’s where you might come in. We are seeking a place to call home, from 1 August. About us: We (Paul, Vanessa and Finley) are from the west coast of the US, calling Utrecht, NL home since 2017, Portland, Oregon before that. We are curious minded people who like to learn about and connect with the world around us. We all like to read, and two of us are writers. Food, culture, hiking, and nature are all on the menu for us. Professionally, I’m an anglophone communications Swiss Army knife for impact minded businesses. Once in France, I will also be launching Shine A Light, an Entreprise à Mission at the intersection of photography, philanthropy and sustainability. My wife Vanessa wears many hats in her business: coach, teacher, mentor, speaker, podcaster, all with an aim to shift the world, and those who call it home, for the better. Our boy Finley, in 5eme at Collegè International next year, is a sweet, football fanatic, with dreams to play on the French national team. Piano is his second love, he’ll likely continue lessons at IEFAR when we live there. The house we seek: The rent budget and specifics are largely open, but a few things are must haves: * In the Collège International catchment area (Don’t know? No worries, we can check) * Ground floor outdoor access for our 3 mellow sibling cats, Xavi, Maeve and Blaze. Some nice to haves we’d welcome are: * Furnished * Toilets on ground and bedroom floors * Rooms for my wife and I to set up office * Spacious kitchen (having lived in NL, we’re easy to please, ha!) * Gas stoves * Back garden * Multi-use shed out back * Pool(!)
