Nytt symönster! Åhlkråkan (den folkliga bahytten) som jag sydde tidigare har jag nu gjort ett mönster till. Det känns himla fint, eftersom den varken varit välanvänd eller välkänd, inte ens i Åhldräktskretsar. Nu kan den få leva vidare ett tag till, både som folkdräktsplagg och men också som en enkel bahytt till andra folkligt inspirerade plagg.

I was entrusted with a folk costume to mend. Somehow the owner’s daughter had ripped a 90 degree angle out, and it needed fixing before midsummer.

I came in with some patience and a lot of almost perfect yarn for an invisible mend job. Not quite invisible, sure, but at least it’s not flapping anymore. And done well in time for midsummer dancing!

Bahytt till folkdräkt?

This week I acquired a new folk costume piece: a traditional cape!

This cape was made by a lady called Ingrid, who used it from the 1970’s and until her passing. For dancing, for celebrating, for the love of history. And I am so happy and proud to keep her legacy going by taking over her wonderful work and celebrating in it for the coming next 50 years!

I had a horrible night with maybe four hours of sleep. First I couldn't sleep because of pain, then I started coughing around 2.30, and had to move to another room and try to sleep in a more upright position. Took another hour to fall asleep, then after a couple of hours the cats started being little assholes and woke me up
So, despite the wonderful winter weather I didn't get a longer walk than a short trip down to the amusement park; Liseberg . To make myself feel better I decided to dress up folk costume style. The skirt and jacket are both in a late 18th century style, made from heavy frieze (vadmal) , which I made because green jackets (tröja) and skirts from vadmal are extremely common in probate inventories from this period and "my" region. The apron is hand woven wool, bought from a secondhand shop. When I wasn't taking photos I wore a knit replica of a 19th century folk piece - you can see it in the second photo, that I got for cheap from a charity shop
The rest of the photos just show how beautiful it is with snow and sun in the amusement park.

I made a hat last year!

In Swedish this is called a kalott. It’s made out of wedges and are mostly worn by men in traditional costumes. But in Toarp it’s also worn by women! Mine is inspired by the gender neutral costume #Bäckadräkten

I could’ve done less with the embroidery, but I’m a helpless maximalist. All of the embroidery is based on blanket stitching. How many ways can you vary one stitch? Lots, it turns out!

Hubby and I took a quick walk to Liseberg, the amusement park close to where we live, and we're 8 our youngest works.
It is cold, so I wore a mix of folk costume, and folk costume inspired, garments. Wool is always best.

Today I took the bus to a nearby town to visit "Textilmuseet", and have a look at folk costume garments in their collection.
It was glorious: looking at cool stuff with Viktoria from the museum, who loves the same stuff as me .

Gesällbrev i dräktsömnadsyrket med utdelningsceremoni i Blå hallen i Stadshuset i Stockholm den 5 november.
Med mig i yrket är gesäll Klara Wiksaas och mästarna Johanna Runbäck och Elisabet Carle. Med mig hade jag min fina man, Patrik Arlid.
