From an outsider’s perspective, the new ownership saw an opportunity to change the subscription model, resulting in users that paid nothing for years now getting bills on short notice for services they haven’t thought about in years.

I can’t tell if this is blatant dishonesty or gross incompetence. No wonder why web and support services buckled after the email campaign.
