Al made a step closer.
Ed didn't move.
Al stepped closer again then, and again, until he was standing between Ed's legs. Ed found his hands shaking as he raised them to put on Al's waist. It felt surreal. As if he suddenly fell into coma and had the best hallucination in his life. Al took the tiniest step toward him, and Ed pulled him even closer, until he could lay his head on his chest. He blinked, and his lashes felt wet, and he realised he's crying like a baby and Al undid his braid and was playing with his hair, and time passed without him noticing.
He tried to pull away, but Al clutched him closer to his chest.
"I'm... I'm fine, Al. You can let me go," he tried to say, but it came out as a hoarse whisper. Not at all convincing.
"Shhh." Al caressed his shoulders, "It's okay."
He tried to get away again, and this time Al let him. The top of his apron was wet from tears. Ed didn't really cry since the funeral. Nothing seemed to come close to losing mom. He didn't really know why it was now, when everything was alright, that he finally lost it.
But Al was magnetic. Unable to keep himself from doing it, Ed put his forehead against Al's chest again and clenched his own knee in an attempt to strangle the emotion bubbling inside him.
Ed inhaled harshly and asked, "That, that guy you were talking about yesterday... Was it?.. Was it me?.."
Al put his cheek on top of Ed's head and nodded, and Ed felt his stomach turn. Something broke inside him, like a valve, and he was clinging to Al like a lifeline. Al was sobbing too, and Ed needed to soothe him, to tell him it's okay. Everything was going to be okay, even if Ed didn't believe it right now.

Starting this little series with my fave elricest scene that I've written 😅 I was too fucked up with work to do anything for FMA day this year again... hopefully this still counts?
