Soft lamp by Terence Woodgate for Case Furniture

Dezeen Showroom: designer Terence Woodgate has created the ambient Soft light for Case Furniture, which translates the shape of the traditional fabric lampshade into opal glass.

Available in both floor and table lamp models, the Soft light has a hand-blown opal glass shade based on a lighting archetype.

The lamp has disc-shaped base made of polished black or grey granite

"I took a known form and manipulated it," said Woodgate. "I wanted it to have a familiarity, which is why the shape is based on something we recognise."

The Soft light produces a gentle, dimmable glow that is suitable for a variety of spaces.

Soft is available as a table and floor lamp

It is completed by a disc-shaped base made of polished black or grey granite, providing a material contrast.

The Soft lamp can accommodate a wide range of bulbs, so the light can be made warmer, cooler, brighter or gentler, according to preference.

Bellevue lamp by Arne Jacobsen for &Tradition

Dezeen Showroom: to celebrate what would be Arne Jacobsen's 120th birthday, &Tradition has launched two special editions of the Danish architect's Bellevue floor lamp.

Jacobsen first created the lamp in 1929 and it is considered to be a classic piece of Danish minimalist design.

&Tradition's anniversary edition of the lamp comes in white and stone grey

Bellevue features a cast iron base and distinctive lamp shade that is formed from a single piece of metal.

"With its graceful lines and clean, understated silhouette, the lamp was part of a wider shift towards a new school of thought that melded sculptural simplicity with the functionalism of Bauhaus," said &Tradition.

The lamp was originally designed by Jacobsen in 1929

The brand's anniversary edition of the lamp nods to Jacobsen's original design and is available in two new finishes.

The lamp shade and base comes in white or stone grey and the stem of the lamp is finished in bronzed brass.

&Tradition released the lamp to celebrate Arne Jacobsen's 120th anniversary

"Credited as one of the grandfathers of modern Danish furniture, Jacobsen is remembered for his exacting perfectionism, his preference for organic forms, and his ability to marry elegance with function," said &Tradition.

"These pioneering qualities are all apparent in the Bellevue, a floor lamp that feels as contemporary now as when it was first created."

Z-Bar Gen 4 lamp by Kenneth Ng and Edmund Ng for Koncept

Dezeen Showroom: Z-Bar Gen 4 is a minimalist lamp with flexible joints that users can shape into angular silhouettes, designed by Kenneth Ng and Edmund Ng for lighting brand Koncept.

Created as an improved version of the brand's original Z-Bar lamp, Z-Bar Gen 4 has hidden joint mechanisms that have a greater range of movement.

When not in use, the flexible joints allow users to fold the lamp down into a slim stick to save space.

The Z-Bar Gen 4 has flexible joints that let the users shape the light themselves

Koncept created Z-Bar Gen 4 to have an improved quality of light compared to the earlier version. "The optics have been improved so that multiple, harsh shadows are avoided; instead the user gets soft, even shadows," said the brand.

Z-Bar Gen 4, which is launching in 2022, comes in three sizes of desk lamp models and as a floor lamp.

The lamp was designed to have an improved quality of light

Additional compatible accessories include a desk clamp, wall mount and alternative bases such as a wireless charging Qi base.

The Pro version of the lamp features a USB port and an occupancy sensor that helps reduce unnecessary power consumption. It also has an adjustable colour temperature that users can alter to suit their circadian rhythm.

Davide Groppi designs Origine light to look like "a bud emerging from the ground"

Italian designer Davide Groppi has created Origine, a sculptural light designed to illuminates facades and interiors with indirect light.

Groppi's design for Origine is defined by the light's simple, narrow structure. Made from fibreglass and metal, its stem becomes increasingly thinner from its bottom to its top and was designed to look like the light is soaring towards the sky.

Origine is a sculptural light by Davide Groppi

"It appears like a bud emerging from the ground and soaring upwards towards the sky, a stem that becomes increasingly thinner," said Groppi.

"Origine is the representation of what I mean by creation, the search for the new, purity, functionality and amazement," he continued. "It is the representation of life through light, like a bud growing from the earth."

The matt black lamp has a graphic and sculptural form

The Italian designer's lamp, which made the shortlist in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2021, got its name from the word oligo, which means "start, birth and source," according to the designer.

Described by Groppi as "mysterious, enigmatic but comfortable," Origine gives off an indirect light and was designed to be used in both interior and exterior spaces.

"Mysterious, enigmatic but comfortable, Origine combines the fascination of the unknown with the pleasure of a sophisticated and elegant ambient light," said Groppi.

"Designed to illuminate the facades of private buildings as well as internal spaces with purity and personality, Origine sculpts and enhances every environment with its indirect light, which is intentionally non-invasive, graphic and fascinating," the designer continued.

The light is available in an indoor or outdoor model

Other shortlisted projects in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2021 include a lamp that replicates sunlight with the aim of improving wellbeing, a solar light that generates energy when hung from a window and a pendant light featuring a blown-glass tube.

Ayno lighting collection by Stefan Diez for Midgard

Dezeen Showroom: German lighting brand Midgard has added a new Silk Grey colour option to its Ayno lighting collection, designed by Stefan Diez around an arced fibreglass rod.

The Ayno collection of floor and table lamps are designed to be flexible and adjustable without the use of joints.

All three models in the Ayno lighting collection are available in a new colour, Silk Grey

The lamps have a curving rod of slender fibreglass, which is pulled into the desired position by adjusting two rings and a textile-coated cable that stretches between them.

This tension design is borrowed from a Bauhaus-era Midgard product, while LED light and low-voltage technology enable Ayno's cable to be impressively thin.

The light can be bent into position by adjusting the tension on the rod

"The design of Ayno is based on the idea of creating an adjustable luminaire that is even more minimalist than its Midgard predecessors, yet seeks their proximity and speaks a thoroughly technical language," said Midgard owners David Einsiedler and Joke Rasch.

All Ayno models are available with either a neon orange or neutral black cable, and the cone-shaped shade is made of durable and recyclable polycarbonate.

The Silk Grey colour is available across all three models in the Ayno range – one table lamp and two-floor lamps.

Fox floor lamp by Bernhard Osann for Nemo Lighting

Dezeen Showroom: Fox is a dimmable floor lamp, created by industrial designer Bernhard Osann for Nemo Lighting, with a sloping, sculptural neck that "makes a statement" even when switched off.

Painted in matte black, Fox provides direct LED lighting from its cylindrical head.

This hangs suspended from a long, overhanging neck that allows the flexible lamp to be rotated around its base to illuminate different parts of a room.

Osann imbued the Fox light with his hallmark simplistic style, which celebrates clean, minimal lines.

"A lamp also makes a statement in its surrounding space when it is switched off," he explained.

"All my designs are dynamic. I playfully incorporate movement, flexibility and balance on different levels. I simplify the objects and reduce the material input to a minimum in order to expose these dynamics."

The lamp has a cylindrical head

The light is available to purchase via Nemo's newly launched e-commerce platform Nemo Unique.
