St Winefride's Well, #Flintshire, escaped Henry VIII's purge of Roman Catholic shrines because his grandmother Margaret of Beaufort insisted the waters had worked a genuine miracle in making her pregnant, after much trying, with a son - Henry VII. The #medieval shrine survives intact. #WyrdWednesday

It would also mean that pretty much everyone in Wales would have a national park on their doorstep. How many other countries have that?

I think I’m in favour of the proposed Glyndŵr National Park. Yeah, it’ll scupper some planning arrangements but having the Dee Valley and Clwydian Range promoted from AONB to a National Park would be good for the local tourist economy.

#Foryd Pier railway station served the village of #KinmelBay, known as Foryd at the time, in the historical county of #Flintshire, Wales, from 1859 to 1885 on the #ValeOfClwydRailway.
The magnificent Jesse Window in the village church at Llanrhaeadr, near #Denbigh. It's thought to date from the early 16th century and may have been lifted from Basingwerk Abbey in #Flintshire at the time of its Dissolution. The most complete #medieval window in North #Wales. #StainedGlassSunday
Two more photos of the 10th Century Maen Achwyfan (Achwyfan's Stone), as per my pervious post. No one seems to know who Achwyfan was. I've only just learnt its design suggests #Viking influence. If so they must have struck inland into #Flintshire and perhaps settled there. #StandingStoneSunday
I posted a panel of modern glass at Llanasa in #Flintshire a couple of weeks ago for #StainedGlassSunday. The church of St Asaph & St Cyndeyrn also boasts some early 16th century glass. Here we have: a Bishop (presumably St Asaph), St Catherine, St James the Great and St Lawrence. #church #medieval
