Basswood, 4x1x1". Done using a #flexcut Carvin' Jack multi tool. But, really, you can use any knife. As long as it's sharp.

And here's the final thing.
A quick stain then varnish. Once the varnish is dry some darker stain (to bring out the details) and a final varnish.
