Sewing the yoke on a pair of 1870s-type waist overalls with a flat-felled seam. This method is quicker than the orthodox way of making flat-felled seams as it eliminates the need to trim one of the seam allowances after stitching the two layers together. #selfmadejeans #flatfelledseams #eurekajeans #forover30years #justahobby #notforsale
Some details on a pair of waist overalls set around 1905, just after the introduction of overlocking but before chainstitch machines were used, so the back and yoke seams were flat-felled.
The denim is a lightweight 2x1, perfect for summer.

Until I got a double-needle chainstitch machine two years ago, all the jeans I made were single-needle construction, like this pair which I made in 2002. Now that I've had plenty of practice with the double-needle chainstitch machine, I'd like to do some single-needle construction again some time soon.
Over the next several posts I'll go over some of the details of the pair in this picture, which was inspired by waist overalls from the 1910s.
