Der Hafen von Gerakas liegt gut geschützt in einer tief eingeschnittenen Bucht an der Ostküste Lakoniens, die stellenweise an einen Fjord, anderswo an eine flache Lagune erinnert. Die Einfahrt ist schmal, dahinter öffnet sich ein stilles Wasserbecken. Entlang des Ufers stehen weiß getünchte Häuser mit bunten Fensterläden und mehrere (im Winter geschlossene) Fischtavernen; Liegeplatz für Fischerboote und kleine Segelyachten.
