More from the backlog: Last time I posted photos from the Coast Starlight from June 2024, on my way to move from LA to NYC. Every time I took that train, it was stuck behind freight trains when approaching San Jose, so every time it arrived an hour late. Then I took CalTrain (not yet electrified back then) from San Jose to San Francisco. Then I biked 4 miles from the CalTrain station to the hostel at Fort Mason. By the time I arrived, it was already around midnight.

I said it's a bad idea to exercise before completely recovering from a cold. That was what I did the day after when I took these photos, which made the cold worse. Plus it got pretty cold during the day. So I got sicker the day after. Fortunately, I was lucky and I was the only person staying in my room at the hostel; the other 5 just didn't show up as the hostel wasn't very busy. This was from my last trip to Monterey several years ago. I grew up going to this wharf for fresh seafood and saltwater taffy. Miss this place!

Went to Fisherman's Wharf this morning before sunrise. Most people are familiar with Pier 39 - a tourist trap full of T-shirt shoppes, mini donuts and tchotchkes from everywhere but #sanfrancisco. But the Wharf is also a working port, and early in the morning before the tourists arrive it's peaceful.
