If you think that those who posted hilarious fake tweets with bought check marks, pretending to be companies & causing stock to tank, can be sued by the companies or even Twitter, you don't know US law.

SCOTUS in a UNANIMOUS judgment said that public figures could LITERALLY be falsely accused of having lost their virginity to their mothers, with the explicit intent of causing emotional distress, but it's still protected from civil liability (forget criminal) by the #FirstAmendmdent

The US has strong protections for free speech. #CitizensUnited #SCOTUS decision (2010) held, in a specific and dangerous sense, that spending money = speech & is protected by #FirstAmendmdent

#web3 seems to be largely about that same notion of speech: speech by money, for money, about money. #defi is more about finance than #decentralization

#fediverse, at least as I've glimpsed on #mastodon, seems to be about a different kind of freedom. About speech as speech
