benPhotos of Anselm Keifer's exhibition 'Finnegen's Wake' (White Cube 2023). Tough, gorgeously physical work, & especially enjoyable for the small works & (for me) wonderful chaos of the hang - plus clear evidence of a sense of humour (snice). I love (most) of his big paintings but they are queasy - in part / too much - gross excess (spectacle). These smaller works were very engaging.

At tonight's meeting of the Finnegans Wake Reading Group in Basel, we came across one of the many triplets based on the initials of the novel's main character, Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker: "hallucination, cauchman, ectoplasm" (133.24).
