One of the highlights of our trip to Finland was spending time with my group in the wilds, looking for the elusive Great Grey Owls. Luck depends on the time of year and the changing climate. Our guides @Finnature were extremely knowledgeable and we were fortunate to see several individuals.

This must be a favourite picture: head on to this imposing and magnificent bird; tracked as always by the impressive AF on my OM-1 camera with the 300mm f4 Pro lens.

Lightly processed in Lightroom Classic to remove the colour cast and slightly lighten the white.

I could have made the Great Grey Owl stand out, but this is how I saw it; a magnificent bird blending into it environment. When we had closer views it stunned me to silence - the Owl flies swiftly but silently across the landscape with slow wing beats. A predator that fits perfectly into its environment.

Did I mention that we saw 5 separate birds due to the guiding skills of Jari Peltomaki ?
