#Lubitel shot early in the morning at the Union Square station. These are remaining columns and terracotta reliefs from the original IRT Union Square station of 120 years ago.
Originally thought to be lost and discarded during MTA renovations of 1998, they were recovered and restored by artist Mary Miss and architect Lee Harris in current form.
The city creates its own myths and folklore - it's been around long enough to have its own hall of memories.
I do wonder how many artists today would be willing to take the time and footwork necessary to preserve something of this place like the duo did for 14th street. It's easy to pull our mind into thinking everything's always been like this, and everything will remain where they are.
